Drytac floor graphics media will cover the entirety of the floor in The Experience Zone.

Drytac materials will also be on show at the brand’s freshly designed booth (6224), including the five products to have won awards at the SGIA 2019 Product of the Year competition. A panel of judges representing the printing industry declared Protac™ Anti-Scratch Gloss 10 mil, Polar® Chrome, ReTac® Textures, ViziPrint® Illuminate and ViziPrint® Deco SR to be the best in their categories in this prestigious annual contest. An awards ceremony will be held before PRINTING United, on October 22nd. The Drytac team will be on hand to share their wealth of knowledge and experience about these award-winning products – and the whole Drytac range – throughout the show.

In addition, Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager at Drytac, and Dennis Leblanc, Eastern and Central Canadian Territory Manager, will be presenting an educational session on Adhesives for Retail Graphics on the first day of PRINTING United. The presentation will be packed with practical information on the diverse types of adhesives available, the products best suited to specific applications, and how installation costs should be a key part of any retail visual graphics project. Adhesives for Retail Graphics is scheduled for Wednesday October 23rd at 11am (Room C140).

Drytac is partnering with several print technology manufacturers and distributors who are also exhibiting at PRINTING United, allowing visitors to see Drytac products in use across the show floor. This will demonstrate the compatibility of Drytac ranges – including ViziPrintSpotOnReTac and Polar – with a variety of different printing technologies and applications. Regular updates will be posted on Drytac’s social media platforms prior to and during PRINTING United.

Drytac picks up an incredible five awards at SGIA 2019 Product of the Year competition

Drytac® has been recognized for its adhesive material innovations in an incredible five categories at the SGIA 2019 Product of the Year competition – exceeding last year’s win of two awards.

The awards have been announced ahead of PRINTING United, the newest event from the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) stable. Taking place in Dallas, TX from October 23rd to 25th 2019, the show covers the gamut of printing technologies and will feature Drytac at Booth 6224. An awards ceremony will be held ahead of the show, on October 22nd.

Drytac came top in the Laminates, Adhesives, Films, Coatings category for its Protac™ Anti-Scratch Gloss 10 mil (250μ), a clear PET laminating film with a scratch-resistant hard coat and high-gloss finish, which is coated on one side with Drytac’s clear-as-glass pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is also available in a 4 mil (100μ) version.

In the Media – Adhesive Back (Not Vinyl) group, Drytac received the SGIA nod for its exceptional Polar® Chrome product, a silver satin reflective PET film designed for eye-catching indoor and short-term outdoor displays and signage. It is also ideal for ultra-reflective and durable labels and stickers – as proven by an epic cross-country motorcycle trip undertaken by Drytac’s Jerry Hill earlier this year.

Drytac ReTac® Textures picked up the SGIA trophy for Media – Adhesive Back Vinyl, in recognition of its ability to add depth and visual appeal to flat images thanks to its embossed textured finish, with ReTac ultra-removable adhesive backing for easy removal and repositioning – making it the perfect option for high-impact wall graphics.

ViziPrint® Illuminate, a translucent matte PET film designed specifically by Drytac for incredible window graphics and decals, won the Media – Films prize, while SGIA honouredViziPrint® Deco SR in the Media – Non-PVC category. Like Illuminate, this window film has been developed for stunning graphics on glass and other smooth surfaces, with extra staying power.

The SGIA 2019 Product of the Year awards were decided by a panel of judges representing the whole printing industry, who evaluated over 200 entries in 72 categories.

Ray Weiss, Director of Digital Print Programs, SGIA, comments: “One of the things I like best about our competition is that it is juried, and judges are basing their decisions on objective criteria. And with outstanding entries like Drytac’s products, they had their work cut out for them.

“The Product of the Year competition represents the best of the best among commercial hardware, software, consumables, and industrial and screen equipment. Congratulations to all the winners.”

Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager at Drytac, says: “In 2018 we were recognized in two categories in the SGIA Product of the Year competition, so to have won five in 2019 is fantastic. These five awards are testament to the market-leading innovation of the whole Drytac team, who consistently look to the market and its changing needs to develop exciting new products.”

He adds: “We’re looking forward to demonstrating all five of these award-winning products – and many more – at the new PRINTING United show in October.”

Epic journey through desert and snow proves Drytac Polar Chrome’s endurance

Authored by Jerry Hill, Vice President of New Business Development, Drytac

Drytac®‘s new metallic print media has been put to the test during an epic cross-country journey – and survived.

This March Jerry Hill, Vice President of Business Development at Drytac – a market-leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the large format print and signage markets – decided to travel from Drytac’s US HQ in Richmond, VA to the ISA International Sign Expo in Las Vegas not by plane, but by motorcycle.

The 2,400 mile, 36-hour ride to Las Vegas (and back again) presented a great opportunity to test out Polar Chrome, Drytac’s bold new reflective film designed foreye-catching indoor and short-term outdoor signage, billboards and exhibition graphics, POS displays, bus and subway advertisements, and ultra-reflective labels and decals. Tests have shown Polar Chrome offers exterior durability of up to two years, and Jerry’s extreme motorcycle ride proves it can withstand even the toughest conditions.

Jerry Hill explains: “A decal was specially designed for the occasion and applied to my black powder coated panniers. The decal would tag along for the ride.

“I never thought that I would have to endure the extremes of 112ºF (44ºC) of Death Valley and the snow, sleet, and hail of the southern Colorado mountains, with temperatures dropping to 28.5ºF (-2ºC).

“I ended up with a 5,600 mile journey of personal exuberance with the decal performing flawlessly, never budging, shrinking, or peeling – even a smidge.”

Jerry adds that Polar Chrome was not developed as a vehicle graphic media but his test more than prove its endurance for applications such as signage, award plaques, and POP displays.

“I now know that I can tell my customers, with confidence, that whatever graphic they build, that Polar Chrome will be at their side until the end of the journey,” he says.

Polar Chrome is a 75 micron (3 mil) reflective satin silver PET film, available in rolls up to 60″ wide and compatible with eco-solvent, solvent, latex and UV printing technology. For indoor applications, it offers durability of up to three years, and is easily and cleanly removed after use.

The hidden cost of ‘box movers’

Authored by Dennis Leblanc, Territory Sales Manager for the Greater Toronto Area at Drytac.

In today’s ‘show me your invoice, I’ll beat it’ environment it’s difficult to compete against the ‘box mover’ business model. Everyone wants the lowest price and many people think the product is the only thing that counts, so why pay more?

However, this mentality has one goal: to move the same product as the competition at a lower price, with no concern for the customer experience, no support for if things go wrong and no added value. As the term suggests, it’s about moving those boxes off the shelves, period.

So have any of us looked at the back-end expenses that this approach actually cost our businesses? Buying from box movers rather than experienced, knowledgeable industry professionals can create a host of problems for your purchasing team that – I can almost guarantee this – you’re not taking into consideration before or after a purchasing decision. Your chosen supplier might have provided the same product as a more expensive competitor, but what if it’s the wrong product for what your client or project needs? Without the industry and application specialists whose knowledge is imbued in buying products from a professional company, it’s impossible to know. You could do the all the research yourself, but this costs you money and takes your focus away from what’s important: your business.

Let’s look at an example. You’ve been asked to quote on rigid POP displays for a short-term retail application. Your purchasing department calls a box mover dealer and requests a quote for the same cast film you always buy. Makes sense – they don’t use the product, so how are they going to know any different? The box mover quotes on the cast film as requested which, of course, is the cheapest price in the land. You submit your final costs to your client. Then the crickets start chirping; you wonder why you never heard back.

Here’s the alternative story. You’ve been asked to quote on rigid POP displays for a short-term retail application and your purchasing department reaches out to your dealer or manufacturer partner. These are trained experts in not just their product range but in the market and its typical applications. They ask the right questions to truly understand the project’s requirements and, as a result, recommend a low-cost monomeric film for short-term POP applications – the most suitable product for the job. You get your pricing back from the purchasing department and voila: no more crickets. And, by using the right material for the right application, you are more cost effective for your client, and are likely to actually achieve better margins.

It’s important to understand and remember that price is not the only important factor in the total equation: using the right materials for the application is paramount to success. It’s this knowledge and support that true industry professionals are here to provide. By working with the right dealer or manufacturer partner, there are no hidden costs, just happy customers.

Drytac has an extensive range of products for every display application – and a team of experts to help you choose the right one. Contact Drytac now to discuss your needs.

Popular Drytac products achieve fire-safety certifications

A number of Drytac®‘s most popular products have achieved a crucial fire safety certification, giving suppliers and end-users extra peace of mind for their display projects.

CAN/ULC-S102 is a surface burning characteristics test that is recognized in Canada, and an accreditation that will give Drytac’s customers around the world extra reassurance. It also boosts Drytac’s position as a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the print, label and industrial markets.

Passing the test with flying colours are Drytac’s ReTac Textures products, embossed films that add depth and a tactile quality to wall murals, exhibition graphics, labels and more; and ReTac Smooth 75 and ReTac Smooth 150, printable polymeric PVC films designed for easily repositionable and removable wall displays. The Drytac ReTac Smooth products have several additional fire safety ratings that comply with strict fire regulations in public spaces.

Drytac Polar Grip and Polar Premium (North America) products have also passed the CAN/ULC-S102 assessment. Polar Grip is a polymeric self-adhesive PVC film for digitally printed signs or graphics with outdoor longevity of up to five years, even in harsh weather conditions. Polar Premium, similarly, is a range of easy-to-apply display materials that provide durability and versatility. Polar Premium printable self-adhesive vinyl, for instance, can be used for numerous applications including general signage, point-of-sale display, window, floor and vehicle graphics, and is available with either a permanent or removable adhesive.

Drytac FloorTac (North America) has also passed the CAN/ULC-S102 assessment. FloorTac delivers attention grabbing graphics that take floors from drab to fab. The polymeric PVC film for floor graphics has a removable, non-damaging adhesive, making FloorTac ideal for short-term indoor advertising with graphics applied to the floor.

“We’re delighted to announce that so many Drytac products have passed the stringent CAN/ULC-S102 tests,” comments Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager of Drytac. “Canada-based customers now have that additional reassurance that their favourite Drytac products have passed yet more safety assessments, so they can focus on creating amazing designs and graphics.”

Save time and money with Drytac retail insiders’ guide

When it comes to advertising and signage in retail environments it’s essential to get it right, so Drytac has compiled a free downloadable guide to help businesses strike the right chord while saving time and money.

Drytac is a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the large format print and signage markets and is therefore an expert in the exciting landscape of retail graphics. Available via the recently revamped Drytac.com website, the Graphic Solutions for Retail & Hospitality Environments guide looks at the constantly evolving in-store experience and how the right print media can make a serious impact.

The easy-to-use guide covers a number of key retail applications, such as wall graphics, floor decals, window signs, countertop adverts and outdoor displays, and the main Drytac products developed specifically for each one. For retailers, installers, interior designers, architectural firms, print businesses and many more professionals, the guide provides insiders’ knowledge of the market – including the ins and outs of the perfect product for each project.

Drytac’s self-adhesive products are designed to deliver outstanding results on a variety of applications, both short- and long-term – offering options for temporary advertising campaigns and permanent branding alike. Market-leading ranges, including the Drytac ReTac and Drytac Polar families utilise innovative adhesion technology to allow simple installation – even for the non-professional – easy repositioning and clean removal. They are also compatible with standard printing and cutting technologies for vibrant, eye-catching designs.

For example, a recent one-day WithinUs pop-up in Vancouver, Canada featured wall, window and floor graphics using Drytac SpotOn products. These are so easy to apply that graphics specialist Still Creek Press used the project as an on-site opportunity to train a new employee. Conversely, Sucrerie des Plaines, a family-run maple syrup business in Quebec, Canada now sports permanent signage produced using Drytac Polar Grip products. The graphics were installed onto a variety of surfaces including wood, metal, glass and corrugated plastic and are expected to withstand the extreme weather conditions typically experienced in the region for many years.

Importantly, Drytac also prioritises safety. Slip ratings on floor graphics media, FDA approvals on materials likely to be used in food environments, and fire ratings for products used in public spaces all help retail industry professionals choose the most suitable product for the job – and have peace of mind following installation. Graphic Solutions for Retail & Hospitality Environments covers this essential element of retail graphics.
