Popular Drytac products achieve fire-safety certifications

A number of Drytac®‘s most popular products have achieved a crucial fire safety certification, giving suppliers and end-users extra peace of mind for their display projects.

CAN/ULC-S102 is a surface burning characteristics test that is recognized in Canada, and an accreditation that will give Drytac’s customers around the world extra reassurance. It also boosts Drytac’s position as a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the print, label and industrial markets.

Passing the test with flying colours are Drytac’s ReTac Textures products, embossed films that add depth and a tactile quality to wall murals, exhibition graphics, labels and more; and ReTac Smooth 75 and ReTac Smooth 150, printable polymeric PVC films designed for easily repositionable and removable wall displays. The Drytac ReTac Smooth products have several additional fire safety ratings that comply with strict fire regulations in public spaces.

Drytac Polar Grip and Polar Premium (North America) products have also passed the CAN/ULC-S102 assessment. Polar Grip is a polymeric self-adhesive PVC film for digitally printed signs or graphics with outdoor longevity of up to five years, even in harsh weather conditions. Polar Premium, similarly, is a range of easy-to-apply display materials that provide durability and versatility. Polar Premium printable self-adhesive vinyl, for instance, can be used for numerous applications including general signage, point-of-sale display, window, floor and vehicle graphics, and is available with either a permanent or removable adhesive.

“We’re delighted to announce that so many Drytac products have passed the stringent CAN/ULC-S102 tests,” comments Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager of Drytac. “Canada-based customers now have that additional reassurance that their favourite Drytac products have passed yet more safety assessments, so they can focus on creating amazing designs and graphics.”

Save time and money with Drytac retail insiders’ guide

When it comes to advertising and signage in retail environments it’s essential to get it right, so Drytac has compiled a free downloadable guide to help businesses strike the right chord while saving time and money.

Drytac is a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the large format print and signage markets and is therefore an expert in the exciting landscape of retail graphics. Available via the recently revamped Drytac.com website, the Graphic Solutions for Retail & Hospitality Environments guide looks at the constantly evolving in-store experience and how the right print media can make a serious impact.

The easy-to-use guide covers a number of key retail applications, such as wall graphics, floor decals, window signs, countertop adverts and outdoor displays, and the main Drytac products developed specifically for each one. For retailers, installers, interior designers, architectural firms, print businesses and many more professionals, the guide provides insiders’ knowledge of the market – including the ins and outs of the perfect product for each project.

Drytac’s self-adhesive products are designed to deliver outstanding results on a variety of applications, both short- and long-term – offering options for temporary advertising campaigns and permanent branding alike. Market-leading ranges, including the Drytac ReTac and Drytac Polar families utilise innovative adhesion technology to allow simple installation – even for the non-professional – easy repositioning and clean removal. They are also compatible with standard printing and cutting technologies for vibrant, eye-catching designs.

For example, a recent one-day WithinUs pop-up in Vancouver, Canada featured wall, window and floor graphics using Drytac SpotOn products. These are so easy to apply that graphics specialist Still Creek Press used the project as an on-site opportunity to train a new employee. Conversely, Sucrerie des Plaines, a family-run maple syrup business in Quebec, Canada now sports permanent signage produced using Drytac Polar Grip products. The graphics were installed onto a variety of surfaces including wood, metal, glass and corrugated plastic and are expected to withstand the extreme weather conditions typically experienced in the region for many years.

Importantly, Drytac also prioritises safety. Slip ratings on floor graphics media, FDA approvals on materials likely to be used in food environments, and fire ratings for products used in public spaces all help retail industry professionals choose the most suitable product for the job – and have peace of mind following installation. Graphic Solutions for Retail & Hospitality Environments covers this essential element of retail graphics.

The 2019 edition of the retail guide is available to download for free now. Simply visit https://www.drytac.com/retailinsidersguide to register for a copy.

Pop-up project gives trainee chance to try Drytac SpotOn

Still Creek Press has completed an extremely short-term project in Vancouver using Drytac® SpotOn® – a product so easy to apply that the business used the time-sensitive project as an opportunity to train a new employee.

Still Creek Press, based in Vancouver, BC, has provided full-service commercial and wide-format print, business forms and ticket printing for almost 25 years. Currently employing over 70 people in a 36,000 sq ft fully integrated printing plant, with a skilled and dedicated team of creative and technical professionals, the company also regularly sponsors and supports organizations and events in the local community that bring people together.

In early June, Still Creek Press worked with natural health retailer WithinUs to create and install wall, window and floor graphics for a charitable pop-up to celebrate WithinUs’ five years in business. As this was a one-day event, the decorative and eye-catching graphics had to be easy to both apply and remove – key features of Drytac SpotOn.

SpotOn – supplied to Still Creek Press by ND Graphics Vancouver – is a 100µ (4 mil) high-quality, ink receptive printable vinyl, compatible with solvent, eco-solvent, latex and UV inkjet printing technology. It is ideal for short-term indoor graphics applications such as wall decals, and can be applied with no special tools, not even a squeegee, meaning it is suitable for use by non-professionals and trainees – as Bruce Lee, Wide Format Manager at Still Creek Press, explains.

“We chose Drytac SpotOn for a number of reasons,” he says. “It was super-easy to apply and it could be easily removed by anyone. In fact I used the event as on-site training for one of my staff members to teach her the ins and outs of an install. We had her apply some of the decals which she did with ease.

“As for the floor decals, it’s great we didn’t have to use an overlaminate with it because of the built-in anti-slip surface – and, like the wall version, it is easy to apply.”

The WithinUs pop-up was in support of Covenant House, which works to support young homeless people in Vancouver. Commenting on Instagram, WithinUs (@withinusnatural) said ‘the wall, window and floor graphics looked incredible’, adding ‘it was a very successful event’.

Still Creek Press uses Drytac SpotOn for a range of projects, with Bruce Lee stating that Peter Bourgeois from Drytac and Ryan Sherriff from ND Graphics ‘have been a great help with introducing us to this product’.

Bruce Lee adds: “After doing numerous tests with this product and other removable vinyls we settled on Drytac SpotOn. Time and time again it outperformed other vinyls and just the feedback from our clients was enough for us. It is, hands down, one of the best removable short-term vinyls out there.”

He adds that the Still Creek Press team is currently testing other Drytac products in the field, including ArmourGrab and ArmourPrint, Polar Transit Matte and ReTac Smooth 75.

Stickers and decals: stay on message without the mess

Authored by Dave Daniels, Northwestern Regional Sales Manager – USA, Drytac

We’ve all seen or placed stickers on things like laptop computers, refrigerators or the ubiquitous car bumper. Vibrant, punchy sticker art on items like skateboards – often called slaps – are everywhere. Stickers and decals are a great way to convey a message, to show loyalty to a brand or band, to promote your own business and much more.

But what happens when you want to change the message? When a brand identity has a refresh, or when you have a new campaign to promote? Unfortunately, most stickers and decals are difficult – or nearly impossible – to remove. They leave a sticky residue that attracts dirt and using cleaning chemicals can damage the surface further.

Luckily, some folks have paid attention to one of Drytac’s amazing products that has great adhesion yet is permanently removable: ReTac. ReTac Smooth 75/150 is a polymeric vinyl film available in thicknesses of 3.2 mil and 6 mil (75 and 150 microns), compatible with latex, eco-solvent and UV printing technologies. Using ReTac you can apply stickers to any compatible surface safe in the knowledge that when they wear out or the message becomes outdated, they can be removed easily and cleanly, even years after initial installation.

Another key feature of ReTac’s innovative adhesive is that it makes ReTac graphics repositionable too, so if you’ve applied your sticker in the wrong place or slightly askew you can move and reinstall it without losing adhesion now or later; despite these incredible qualities ReTac maintains its adhesive strength over time.

Importantly, ReTac Smooth 75/150 is easily cut to the shape you want with vinyl cutting systems – making it perfect for producing stickers and decals in an infinite range of designs. It’s also wipe-clean, so ideal for keeping those refrigerators and laptops hygienic, and car bumpers and skateboards on-message.

With an excellent white point for vibrant results and roll lengths of 54″ x 150′ and 61″ x 150′ available, ReTac Smooth 75/150 is also used worldwide for much larger applications, from window decals to large wall displays – like Wembley Stadium! Just like small but eye-catching stickers, these graphics are repositionable, removable and easily cleaned, meaning you can let ReTac do the talking when you want to send a message and remove it when you don’t.

Drytac Polar scores at Liverpool vs Barcelona match

It’s been called one of the greatest comebacks in football history: Liverpool FC’s home win against Barcelona, overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit to win 4-3 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League competition. And while Barça may not have been the stars of the show this time, the team’s bus – wrapped using materials from Drytac® – certainly grabbed fans’ attention.

Covering the entire team bus including the windows, the vehicle wrap – featuring FC Barcelona’s colours and crest – was printed by Astra Signs onto an innovative PVC material from Drytac’s Polar range, using an HP Latex 570 printer. Based in central Manchester, Astra Signs creates, supplies and installs the highest quality signage for businesses all over the UK and internationally.

Steve Broad, European & Asia Sales Director for Drytac Europe, is a self-proclaimed ‘big Liverpool fan’ and was lucky enough to be in Liverpool on May 7th for the stunning second-leg match, as well as in Barcelona for the semi-final first leg.

“The actual bus drove past us on Tuesday and we spotted it outside the hotel in Liverpool where the Barcelona players were staying,” he says. “It’s always great to see Drytac products used for world-class applications – and even more so when it’s at a spectacular event like this match.”

David Derbyshire, Managing Director at Astra Signs, explains why the company chose the Drytac Polar product: “It was important to use a product that we could print quickly due to the nature of this application, with consistent strong spot colours to match the brand. Installation of this material worked really well within the time constraints provided and, equally, the material was easy to remove leaving no marks or residue. The client was very happy with the end result.”

The Drytac Polar range comprises a series of printable media designed for eye-catching applications in even the most extreme conditions, such as window displays in low temperatures or the environmental conditions endured by vehicle graphics.

In addition to vehicle, window, wall and floor graphic media, laminating films and mounting adhesives, Drytac’s key product areas include high-performance tapes, industrial adhesives and durable labels. For more information on Drytac’s products and services, please visit www.drytac.com.
