Write On/Wipe Off with Drytac’s WipeErase Films

Drytac®, a leading international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the print, label and industrial markets, has announced the global availability of two new exciting additions to its WipeErase® range of film media.

Drytac ReTac® WipeErase and WipeErase White are both designed to be written on with standard dry-erase markers to create a whiteboard anywhere – an ideal practical solution for environments including schools, universities, offices, hospitals, retail stores and more. In addition, their anti-graffiti properties allow for easy removal of permanent markers, while they can both be branded or decorated using UV printing technology.

Drytac’s ReTac WipeErase is a 6 mil (150 micron) white dry-erase film, coated with a scratch- and stain-resistant lacquer that is guaranteed for up to ten years. The film is easy to handle, can be applied to a smooth surface and can be taken down and repositioned with no loss of adhesion and leaving no residue, thanks to its integrated ReTac Permanently Peelable Adhesive. Unlike a whiteboard, it won’t suffer from ink staining or ghosting.

Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager at Drytac, comments: “ReTac WipeErase is ideal as a replacement for whiteboards and flip charts, where sheets can be moved around to help with visualising and planning, and then taken away for future use. It essentially provides an ‘A-frame whiteboard in a tube’. This product is also hugely beneficial in a retail environment where messages need to be moved around the store relevant to specific product ranges.”

These innovative attributes have already won fans in the graphics industry: ReTac WipeErase topped the Laminates, Adhesives, Films, Coatings category in the SGIA Product of the Year awards in 2018. These prestigious awards were announced ahead of the SGIA Expo 2018 in Las Vegas in October 2018 and recognised the most exciting products to be showcased at the event, selected by knowledgable industry professionals.

Drytac’s second new product, WipeErase White, has a permanent adhesive for locations where the signage will not need to be moved, such as wall coverings, restaurant menus and whiteboards. It is a 6 mil (150 micron) film with excellent durability and scratch resistance.

“The WipeErase White film incorporates Drytac’s adhesive expertise to deliver a product that is very easy to apply, yet remains firmly intact for many years,” explains Shaun Holdom. “When it is time to remove or replace the film, it will leave no residue and the area can have new media applied to it immediately.”

As well as offering ‘a whiteboard in a roll’, both Drytac ReTac WipeErase and WipeErase White can be used to resurface existing whiteboards to give them a new lease of life.

Holdom explains: “Whiteboards often suffer from ‘ghosting’, making them look grey and shaded. In time, the pens used on these boards scratch the surface and when rubbed off leave a very faint impression of previous writing. Once this has happened, there is no way of repairing the whiteboard itself and so the ghosting needs to be put up with, or the board replaced. A sheet of one of our WipeErase products applied to a whiteboard essentially makes it as good as new and is considerably cheaper than replacing it. Do this across a whole organisation and the savings could be huge.”

Drytac appoints Gareth Newman to lead new Drytac Academy

Bristol, UK, January 24, 2018: Drytac®, an international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the print, label and industrial markets, is preparing to open a fully interactive training centre in Fishponds, Bristol: the Drytac Academy.

Gareth Newman has been appointed Academy Manager and, supported by Drytac’s Global Product Manager Shaun Holdom, is developing an extensive curriculum of training courses for display graphics professionals to begin later this month.

The Drytac Academy is a showcase of Drytac products and how they can be used with the newest and most popular wide-format printing technology on the market today, provided by the manufacturers themselves. This includes: a Roland TrueVIS VG-540 with Roland VersaWorks 6 RIP software; a Fujifilm Acuity LED 1600 II using Caldera RIP software; and an HP Latex 365 and an Epson SureColor SC-S80600, both powered by Onyx Thrive RIP – with more to be installed soon.

The Drytac Academy also houses profiling equipment, the i-1 Pro 2 provided by X-rite, which allows custom profiles to be built. In addition to the above, the space includes a complete finishing area with a laminator and Hot Press vacuum press.

Gareth Newman explains: “Naturally we have the entire Drytac product range at our disposal so having a full variety of machines allows our customers to learn how to get optimum results from Drytac materials using different systems and technologies.

“We’ll also be working closely with the printer hardware manufacturers themselves by providing training to their employees using their own systems and Drytac materials.”

This collaboration with print brands is also contributing to the course development.

“We’re asking manufacturers what their customers need: what do they want to know, what are they struggling with, how would they like to be more creative with our products?” says Gareth. “By drawing on this wealth of experience from both within and outside Drytac we’re approaching training in a fresh, new way.”

The Drytac Academy will also serve as an exhibition space, showcasing how Drytac’s products can be used in real-world display applications, such as retail store fronts. The company’s innovations in adhesive-coated products include graphic films, window films, double-sided tapes, self-adhesive print media, label stock, industrial adhesives and heat-activated and pressure-sensitive laminates and mounting adhesives – all of which will have an eye-catching place in the Academy.

“The space itself will form part of the training courses,” says Gareth. “For example, at Drytac we have severaldifferent types of wallpaper products. By showcasing them in the training facility we will help demonstrate the difference between them, and how they work with different printing technologies.”

The course titles will be announced shortly, but topics will include: an introduction to digital media; business development; practical application skills; and creative design.

In addition, the Drytac Academy will play a role in Drytac’s R&D; with so many different technologies on hand, the development team can run tests and create samples quickly and easily in-house.

Gareth Newman is a product specialist with over six years’ experience in the industry, moving to Drytac from Roland. Prior to Roland, he was an experienced sign-maker, having worked in the sign industry since he was a teenager.

“We’re delighted to welcome Gareth Newman to Drytac and are looking forward to opening the new Drytac Academy with Gareth leading the training,” says Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager, Drytac. “He has the experience, knowledge and energy to drive a new approach in professional training – from newcomers to veterans.”

Drytac reveals new advertising product – perfect for food environments

Drytac, an international manufacturer of self-adhesive materials for the large format print and signage markets, announces the launch of the ArmourPrint Emerytex and ArmourGrab combination counter mat solution. Having been previewed successfully at recent trade shows, the products are now available globally.

ArmourPrint Emerytex is a clear, heavy-duty, slip-resistant monomeric 15 mil (381μ) PVC film with a matte pebble textured finish on one side and a smooth printable surface on the other. It has been approved by the FDA for incidental food contact, making it ideal for advertising applications in hospitality and retail environments. ArmourGrab is an 8 mil (203μ) co-extruded white anti-slip film coated with a heavy coat weight, permanent, pressure sensitive clear acrylic adhesive. Used together, the two products create a food-safe counter mat solution ideal for eye-catching POP advertising.

Thanks to the slip-resistant qualities of both ArmourPrint Emerytex and ArmourGrab, these products can also be used for applications such as placemats and mouse pads. Their UV protection also enables outdoor use, while a moisture barrier protects the printed image and aids hygiene. No white ink is needed to create vivid and eye-catching counter mats as the white ArmourGrab backs the ArmourPrint Emerytex to eliminate the extra cost of printing with white.

The ArmourPrint Emerytex and ArmourGrab dual-product counter mat solution was previewed at the SGIA Expo 2018 in Las Vegas in October to over 25,000 registered delegates.

“The combination of ArmourPrint Emerytex and ArmourGrab creates a solution that is both safe and effective as counter-top advertising in fast food outlets, convenience stores, bars and more,” says Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager at Drytac.

“It’s an innovative new design that attracted a lot of attention at the recent SGIA show and we’re delighted to offer it to our customers worldwide.”

The 6 mil (150 micron) white dry erase film features a chemical- and scratch-resistant UV hard coat and a clear gloss surface that allows the film to be written on and wiped off easily. Drytac SpotOn SynPaper speeds into the future at Shell Eco-marathon

Bristol UK; July 23, 2018: Drytac’s SpotOn SynPaper felt the need for speed at Shell’s Eco-marathon in London this month, where it was used for eye-catching vehicle graphics on innovative racing car designs.

The Shell Eco-marathon brought together 143 teams of young engineers from 24 countries at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from July 5th to 8th 2018, where they put their STEM skills to the test to attempt record-breaking levels of energy efficiency in one-seater cars. The event was covered live on social media, with viewers around the world able to see the skills of drivers and technicians close-up.

As a main sponsor for the event, HP provided all the PC and printing equipment for the student teams to produce their own graphics, including an HP PageWide XL large-format printer running Drytac’s SpotOn SynPaper. As a product designed specifically for this HP system, SpotOn SynPaper was the material of choice for the vehicle decals speeding around the track.

A printable, matte white, self-adhesive film, SpotOn SynPaper has been developed to be incredibly easy to apply with a bubble-free finish – which meant the Eco-marathon teams could install their graphics themselves. The cars were made from a variety of materials, including polystyrene and silk fibres, in order to achieve the highest speeds with the lowest amount of energy.

Drytac has also ensured that SpotOn SynPaper, as a polypropylene film, is recyclable – in keeping with the sustainability ethos of Shell’s Eco-marathon programme.

In addition to one-off uses such as the car stickers at the Eco-marathon event, SpotOn SynPaper is ideal for vibrant short-term wall and window applications like seasonal retail promotions and trade show graphics. It is simple and clean to remove, thanks to its smart dot pattern and pressure-sensitive polyacrylate adhesive.

“The Shell Eco-marathon was a really exciting event with the innovation of the teams matched by the speeds of the cars,” comments Shaun Holdom, Global Product Manager for Drytac.

“We love to see unusual applications for our products and Drytac SpotOn SynPaper graphics, printed on HP PageWide XL technology, worked brilliantly on the track. The event was all about the energy-efficient cars of the future, making it a great setting for our advanced graphics media.”

Drytac SpotOn SynPaper was designed specifically for the HP PageWide XL printer, but also produces excellent results with aqueous and UV inkjet printers, delivering six months’ durability for interior applications. The 120 micron (4.7 mil)-thick material is available in 1,016mm (164’) wide rolls.
